2020: COVID as a Health Technology Catalyst
2020 was a momentous year for healthcare at so many levels. With all of its terrible consequences, the COVID pandemic brought to light so many core elements of healthcare: the value of diagnostics; the utility of telehealth; the importance of clinical studies; the essential cooperative relationships between industry and government; and the rapid development of novel therapeutics. This convergence made 2020 one of the most distinctive years in healthcare, a catalytic year that propelled healthcare to the forefront of international consciousness.
With this paradigm-shifting situation for healthcare, I am pleased to introduce Vital Tech Partners (VTP). Having been a medical device executive, investor, board member, and investment banker, I am particularly energized to work with companies focused on important, life-enhancing/life-saving technologies.
VTP will focus in six key areas which reflect my interests and experiences, as well as trends in healthcare:
Brain and Mental Health
Chronic Diseases
Aging
Diagnostics
Sports, Military and Physical HealtH
Healthcare Delivery
As we launch strategic advisory services, VTP will bring clients a special combination of experience and practical problem-solving capabilities in the healthcare space. As an investor in both public and private companies, we will bring an intense analytic focus which has yielded substantial returns not only this past year, but in many years past.
VTP’s analytic framework includes core principles for investment:

This is the start of my next professional chapter. In many ways, this is what I have been working to do for quite some time. Healthcare is a unique industry. Different than so many other industries, healthcare seems to have more impediments to success than others, yet more impact when executed properly. I’ve assuredly learned a lot, made a ton of mistakes, and have a passion for this industry which can help humankind in profound and vital ways.
